Accused Serial Bank Robber Suspected in Additional Holdup

***Update: Clyde Allen Nixon was takeninto custody on May 1, 2012 at approximately 10:30 a.m. by the Kingsport PoliceDepartment in Kingsport, Tennessee. Officers received information regardingNixon’s location and when they tried to take him into custody, he fled thescene in a vehicle. He was arrested a short time later and is now facingcharges in Tennessee in additional to numerous charges related to bankrobberies in North Carolina.***
The Charlotte Division of the FBI, theRaleigh Police Department, the Asheville Police Department, and the BuncombeCounty Sheriff’s Office are seeking assistance to locate a serial bank robberysuspect. Clyde Allen Nixon (09/14/1951) is now believed to be responsible forfive bank robberies, including one last week in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Nixon is believed to be responsible forrobberies at:
■Wells Fargo—900 Smokey Park Highway,Asheville, NC, February 9, 2012; ■RBC Centura—1007 Smokey Park Highway,Buncombe County, NC, February 24, 2012; ■First Citizens Bank—1375 Patton Avenue,Asheville, NC, March 20, 2012;■First Bank—6 Dogwood Road, Candler, NC,March 30, 2012; and ■PNC Bank—2412 Wycliff Road, Raleigh,NC, April 26, 2012. Nixon was believed to have a femalecompanion waiting outside the bank in the most recent robbery in Raleigh. Sheis described as a white female, possibly in her mid-30s, with long dark brownor black hair.
Nixon has friends and family throughoutNorth Carolina and South Carolina. He has recently been seen in Buncombe,Carteret, Cleveland, Craven, Gaston, and Mecklenburg Counties in NorthCarolina. He should be considered armed and dangerous.
